03-16 Chalk Ridge Falls Park

Today we went to Chalk Ridge Falls Park located just outside of Belton.  We had planned to do a 5 mile hike but the brush that we had to get through and the lack of markers on the trail made us cut the hike 1 mile short of 5.

There were several cool spots to stop and explore.  Here is a huge tree over the river.  Brian walked over it and then I stood on it to

take this photo of the falls.  I imagine this is a better water fall after a good rain.

Here is the very cool cable suspension bridge.  Mic was quite nervous about it.

A small cave up a hill away from the trail.

We saw many huge trees and weird tree trunks.  This is a tree that has several small trees growing from one of the branches near the top of the trunk.

Here is the view down the Lampasas River from a spot that we

took a final break.  At this point Gabe was ready to turn back and we were all tired of keeping our eyes open for and dodging the poison ivy.  It was a warm, humid day but we were so glad that the sun stayed behind clouds most of the hike.
